What It's Like Fishing Fernandina Beach & Amelia Island
Fernandina Beach sits on the northern end of Amelia Island, surrounded by creeks, flats and backwater that give us plenty of options for an inshore fishing trip.
Redfish are a big part of the local fishery, but they're not the only reason to fish here. Depending on the conditions, we can also target flounder, black drum, sheepshead, weakfish and southern kingfish.
Our shallow-draft bay boat is a good fit for this water. We can work the creeks, backwaters and flats, and come fall we put the boat's 5 foot tower to use for sight fishing.
It's also an easy fishing destination if you're staying farther south. Jacksonville is just a short drive from Fernandina Beach, making it easy to head north for a private day of fishing around Amelia Island.
Every Loose Cannon fishing trip is private and limited to three anglers, giving everyone plenty of room to fish.

Our private two-hour sunset cruises are a chance to get out on the water, slow things down and enjoy an evening around Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island with your own group.
There's no crowded tour boat and no sharing the trip with strangers. It's just your group, Capt. Chris and a couple of hours on the water as the day winds down.

Meet Captain Chris Cannon
Capt. Chris Cannon has more than 25 years of fishing experience and has been around fishing and boats since he was a kid.
He started Loose Cannon in 2023 to share that experience with others and now personally runs private fishing trips and sunset tours around Fernandina Beach.
Most days it's just Capt. Chris, you and your group, with his son occasionally coming along as an extra hand.

The Loose Cannon is a 2024 Mamba 227VX, a 22 foot 7 inch shallow-draft bay boat built for the type of fishing we do.
Its shallow draft helps us work backwater areas, while the open casting decks give anglers room to fish.
A Power-Pole shallow-water anchor lets us set up quickly and quietly on flats and structure without dropping a traditional anchor.
The boat is also equipped with tournament-grade livewells, GPS, fishfinder, wireless trolling motor, live bait well, an ice box and a 5 foot sight fishing tower.
We intentionally limit fishing trips to three anglers. That keeps the boat comfortable and gives everyone room to cast and fish safely.

You don't need to show up with a pile of fishing equipment.
We provide the rods, reels, tackle, live bait and lures needed for the trip, along with the group fishing license that covers everyone aboard.
Kids are welcome, and experienced anglers are too. We'll adjust the day to the group we've got on the boat.
